Shim (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is designed with a strong focus on privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is stored on your device, what limited data may be transmitted, and how it is used.

1. Overview

  • No account is required to use Shim

  • We do not collect names, emails, or direct identifiers

  • We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers

  • Your personal journal content remains on your device

2. Information Stored on Your Device

The following information is stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage:

  • Journal entries and notes

  • Mood and relationship reflections

  • Event outcomes and activity selections

  • Photos added within the app

  • Saved locations or addresses

  • Cycle, pregnancy, and related health tracking data

  • App settings and preferences

This data is not transmitted to our servers.

3. Data That May Be Transmitted

To operate and improve the app, limited data may be transmitted to trusted third-party services:

a. Analytics (Google Firebase)

SHIM collects limited analytics information to operate, maintain, and improve the app. By default, this includes anonymous or pseudonymous app usage information, such as app navigation, feature usage, screen views, session information, app version, and general product interactions.

More sensitive relationship, reproductive, or health-related analytics are collected only if you explicitly provide consent within the app.

Examples of analytics may include:

  • Screen views and interactions

  • Feature usage and session duration

  • App version and device information

  • General behavioral patterns (such as navigation through the app)

  • Generalized or categorized insights only when the user has explicitly enabled those features

b. Subscriptions (RevenueCat & Apple / Google)

  • Purchases are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store

  • RevenueCat manages subscription status using an anonymous or pseudonymous identifier

  • We do not receive or store your payment information

c. Location (Weather Feature Only)

If you choose to use location-based features:

  • Your approximate location or coordinates may be sent to a weather service

  • This is used only to retrieve weather data

  • Location data may be stored locally on your device

  • Location data is not stored on our servers or used for tracking or advertising

d. Technical & Device Information

Analytics services may automatically collect:

  • Device type and operating system

  • App version

  • Pseudonymous device identifiers

  • Approximate location (derived from IP)

This helps maintain app performance and reliability.

4. What We Do NOT Collect or Transmit

We do not collect or transmit:

  • Journal text or notes

  • Photos

  • Detailed mood descriptions

  • Precise personal content from your entries

  • Contact lists, messages, or emails

5. Third-Party Services Used

Shim uses the following services:

  • Google Firebase (analytics)

  • RevenueCat (subscription management)

  • Apple and Google (in-app purchases and device services)

  • Weather data providers (for optional weather features)

These providers may process data using their own systems in accordance with their respective privacy policies.

6. Data Sharing

We do not:

  • Sell your data

  • Share your data with advertisers

  • Share your data with data brokers

We only share limited data with service providers required to operate the app.

7. Data Security

Because your personal content is stored locally on your device, you maintain primary control over your data.

We use reasonable safeguards, including on-device storage protections, but cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s Privacy

Shim is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Updates will be reflected by the “Effective Date.”
